I’m Done With the Sisterlocks Tool

So, my retightening appointment is later this week and I thought I’d practice what I learned in class by beginning the front portion of my hair. I did about 8 locs in 30 minutes or so. That number could have been greatly reduced, however, if the tool hadn’t snagged with almost half of them.

The process was frustrating to say the least. My hair is fine and some of my locs appear to be attached to 30 strands or less, so when the metal on the tool gets caught on the loc, I could potentially lose the entire loc if I don’t maneuver it correctly to free it. Once it gets stuck, I start off moderately irritated, but patient. After about 30 seconds of unsuccessful manipulation, I typically unlatch the loc and spend 30-40 more seconds untangling the tool from my hair. This may sound ridiculous, but when you have over 600 locs, spending 2 minutes on each, it would take me roughly 20 hours to complete my hair!

Needless to say, this is not going to work for me. I placed an order this evening for two different replacement tools that have no extra metal pieces; the Nappy Locs tool and a similar tool I found on Amazon. Hoping at least one of them brings me peace of mind as I retighten my hair. I’ll post reviews soon.

  1. Yea the sisterlocks tool was a nightmare for me! I used the nappy loc tool which made the process easy and pain free. It’s small and discreet so sometimes I’d attach it to my necklaces so I could retighten on the go if I got some spare time.
