Sisterlocks and theatre hair

So, I’m currently doing a show where I need to wear a 1950’s – 60’s hairstyle. Before sisterlocks, I’d style my own natural hair or I might just go get a wig and be done with it. But now that I have sisterlocks, things are different. After my last issue with slippage after wearing a hat for 3 hours, I didn’t  want to risk the amount of damage I would cause from 3 weeks of wearing a wig. Lawd today.

So, I needed a good 1950’s era hairstyle to put my sisterlocks in for this show. After searching the Internet and Pinterest, I decided to rock an afro puff piece with a bang and a flower. 🌸

I think it works perfectly and it fits the late 50’s to 60’s time period of the show. While many black women chose to wear the straight coiffed styles of their counterparts, some ‘rebels’ dared to rock afros as both a political and emotional movement. I’m sort of a rebel, especially in this show, so why not? It’s very convenient, stylish, and doesn’t put too much stress on my 5-month old locks.

  2. I like to change up my hair often. My go-to style is a two-strand twistout, but I also like wearing it in bun/ponytail with a bit out in the front.
