My sisterlocks are 4 months old! What better time to give an update.
Styling
I’m itching to rock some of the styles I see on Instagram and Pinterest, but I’m trying to be good and let my hair settle before subjecting my delicate edges to the stress styling can sometimes put on the hair. So, it’s pretty much braid and twist outs. Because I workout so often, several times a week, I cleanse with witch hazel /tea tree oil combo then I massage jojoba oil into my scalp. At night, I’ll add 2-3 big flat twists, then tie it down with a scarf. The results are gorgeous!

Slippage
I can feel my hair beginning the loc process. I can tell because my edges, where I had major slippage for the first couple of months, are not slipping nearly as much. It’s been 19 days since my last retightening. I still workout like nobody’s business, but the fragile, baby locs are holding on like En Vogue.
Growth
It’s a bit harder to see growth since I have major shrinkage a majority of the time. But I do pull a few locs every now and then. I will say that flat twisting stretches my hair more than braid outs. Length checks used to be a big deal before I was locked. Now, I don’t care because I know my hair is going to grow.
Density
I am in love with the fullness of my locs! Looking back at photos from my installation, I can see how much it’s filled in already. Sometimes I just play in the mirror, whipping my hair back and forth (video soon. Ha!). While the days of my beloved afro are gone, my locs have a fullness I was never able to achieve before.
Dry Scalp
I stopped oiling my scalp as frequently after I lost so many locs the first 2 months, but my scalp became itchy and dry again. So, I’m back to my normal routine of which hazel and jojoba oil a couple of times a week after workouts, coupled with a much water as I can drink. My scalp looks darn good considering it’s only washed during my appointments every 4 – 6 weeks.
I only wash my hair once every 4-6 weeks as well. Sometimes I am shocked at how well my sisterlocks hold up.

The only time it’s bad is when I’ve worked out a lot in between retightenings…like this month. Haha My hair is screaming for a good wash.
