New sisterlocks and dry scalp

New sisterlocks and dry scalpYou know that kid in class who always had their hand up asking questions? The one that people rolled their eyes at? That was me. I’ve always been inquisitive. So you can imagine all the questions that started going through my head when I noticed the first signs of dry scalp with my new sisterlocks. I’m not supposed to get my hair  washed until my first re-tightening at the end of the month, yet it looks like it snowed on my head.

Hairapy Session

I went to my “hairapist” and she reassured me that the dryness I’m experiencing is totally normal and would pass with time. I told her that the Sea Breeze hadn’t been working for me. I decided to try Witch Hazel instead. She suggested I follow the Witch Hazel with a pure oil.

Thayers Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera

I left the salon and immediately went to the Natural Foods Co-op and picked up a bottle of Thayers Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera. I also grabbed bottles of jojoba oil and sweet almond oil. I saturated my scalp with the Witch Hazel and massaged it in. My scalp immediately felt much better than it had with the Sea Breeze, but how it feels and looks tomorrow will be the real test. I decided not to oil my scalp because I wanted to see how my scalp responded to the astringent alone.

My hair looks good today! I almost don’t want to run at lunch today because my braid out is so cute. Ha! But, I’ve already missed several runs the past couple of weeks, so I plan to oil my scalp after cleansing tonight.
My first re-tightening and wash is 9 days away. My scalp will be happy

  1. I know this post is super old but I’m just under a week into my journey and my scalp is sooooo sore from all the itching and my scratching of it. I’m THIS close to unraveling everything because the itchiness is becoming a torment. Please say it gets better!
