Sisterlocks: Feeling Creative

I feel so much more empowered to try new styles with my sisterlocks. Styles I never even tried when I wore singles or two-strand kinky twists. Ever since my install back in April, I’ve wanted my hair styled. My go-to style for the past 8 months has been the braid out mainly because my loctician wanted to make sure my infant locs didn’t unravel from over manipulation. Well, I felt they were pretty solid at 8 months, so I started experimenting. I was shocked that my practice style was actually pretty enough to wear to church. That first style was cute.

A week later, I did this:

It came about after I saw a few posts on Instagram and Pinterest. I figured, I’d try my hand at it. I went into it with an open mind — totally okay if I failed. I parted the first section and began twisting. When I pulled out the mirror to check my progress, I was floored. I’d neva eva flat twisted my hair in an updo before sisterlocks. I tried flat twisting it several times prior to sisterlocks and it came out a hot mess. I was NOT expecting to see the beautiful coiffed hair pictured above. I secured each of the twists with tiny, black, ouchless bands and styled the remaining hair and took my happy self to church.

I’ve got the bug now. I want to keep experimenting and trying new styles. Of course I’ll make sure not to overdo it. I don’t want to stress my newbies. I have a tendency to be heavy-handed, even on my own darn self. SMH

The next style I want to try is a mohawk. Coming Soon!
