My sisterlocks are 90 days old!

My sisterlocks are 90 days old today! It’s hard to believe that just 5 months ago I was flip-flopping on whether I’d even get sisterlocks, and here I am now, 90 days post install. Not much has changed with my hair. I’m just as enamored with them as I was on Day 1 of my installation.

Washing my hair

I don’t wash my hair. I wait 6 weeks until my re-tightening appointment and my loctician tightens my hair, then she washes it. I used to worry about it itching really bad after working out, but I’ve found that if I spritz 2-3 times a week with witch hazel and follow up with jojoba oil, my scalp is satisfied until the next salon visit. I haven’t noticed any scalp buildup with this regime and when the combo drips onto my face during my workouts, it doesn’t break me out! (Doing my happy dance).

Styling my hair

I’ve read too many horror stories of slippage and all around issues if new sisterlocks are over-manipulated, so I pretty much wear my hair the same as I wore it pre-install. Hair flowers continue to adorn my staple asymmetrical braid-out. Though I have days like today where I decided to pull it out of my face and up into a bun with a messy bang. I can’t wait to get my first updo!

Nighttime Routine

At night, unless I’m wearing a braid-out, I put my hair in a pineapple. I pull all of my sisterlocks on top of my head and lightly tie an ouchless band around them. Then, I wrap with one my silk scarves. The next morning, I typically shake and go. Pretty stress free.

I should note that I used to wear one of those hair bonnets with the smooth band at night, but I’ve noticed that the band rubs against the outer perimeter of my sisterlocks and may cause those fragile locs to slip, so I’m back to wearing scarves until the locs are more mature.
